AVB laughs off Szczesny talk

ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS has hit back at Wojciech Szczesny’s Tottenham taunt by claiming the Arsenal keeper is not committed to his own club.

Szczesny re-ignited his war of words with arch-rivals Spurs by claiming in yesterday’s SunSport that they do not have enough quality to finish in the top four this season.

Spurs face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tonight with the clubs battling for the final two Champions League places.

Tottenham manager Villas-Boas blasted Szczesny. He said: “It would be more tolerable if it had come from a genuine Arsenal fan rather than coming from an Arsenal player who is probably only passing by to another club, who is not going to stay there for life.
“It would be a little bit more realistic for a famous Arsenal supporter to come forward with those words.

“I wouldn’t say that an Arsenal player who has just been in that team for the last couple of years is entitled to have so much hatred toward Spurs.”

Last year Szczesny repeatedly spoke of his dislike for the ‘other North London club’ — a club he admitted on one occasion that he ‘hates’.

The Pole took another dig this week when he said: “If we win our next two games it will be enough.

“Chelsea or Spurs will drop points because they play each other. Tottenham do not have enough quality, so there you go.”

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas, who insists he does not have a point to prove tonight after his ill-fated nine months at the Bridge, has sympathy for Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez.

AVB said: “He accepted the job of interim manager, which is a difficult situation to be in.

“The Chelsea fans made their frustrations public and that is hard for any manager, even though the supporters are entitled to their opinion.

“So I have great respect for the difficulties he went through.”
