Man United Paul Scholes set to make 500 marking

PAUL SCHOLES will get the chance to reach a milestone of 500 league games before he finally retires for good. SunSport revealed in December that this would be the veteran midfielder’s last season having already made one comeback.

He has had a knee injury in the second half of this season and has not played since January. But Scholes, 38, has been training for the last 10 days and will be on the bench for tomorrow’s visit of Chelsea.

He has made 497 league appearances and needs to appear against Chelsea and in the final two matches at home to Swansea and away to West Brom to make it to 500.

Ferguson is keen that Scholes plays against Swansea on May 12 when the Premier League trophy is presented.

Ferguson said: “I will probably put Scholes on the bench on Sunday to get him back in the fray. I would love him to play in the Swansea game.” Scholes has played 716 times for United scoring 155 goals — but he is still behind Sir Bobby Charlton on 758 games and No 1 Ryan Giggs on 938 games.
