QPR boss Harry Redknapp pay cut
HARRY REDKNAPP will have to take a pay cut following QPR’s relegation.
Chairman Tony Fernandes revealed boss Redknapp and more than half of his squad have relegation clauses reducing their salaries next season.
Fernandes said: “Do we have relegation clauses? Yes. Do all the players have them? No. But at least 60 per cent do. The manager? Yes. His salary goes down as well. Rangers, who appointed boss Redknapp on a £3million-a-year deal in November, were relegated to the Championship after last week’s 0-0 draw at Reading.
Fernandes refused to reveal which players have the clauses — and how much the decreases will be.And he insisted relegation will not plunge his big-spending club into financial meltdown.
He said: “We have been made out to be not sensible, stupid, and guys on TV have torn me apart — but we are not stupid.”
Fernandes also claimed some of his players do not show enough passion in the blue and white hoops.
He said: “I was naive in thinking that players were like me, giving it 150 per cent.
“I know players who feel hurt when they lose — but there are others who aren’t bothered.”
